What HCMS is Working on...

You're may already be familiar with the annual Scientific Sessions (attracting more than 500 attendees), and HMCS's "In the Thick of It" podcast (which attracts 6,000 listeners). Here's what else HCMS is working on that you may not be familiar with.

AHA Registry

Since 2024, HMCS volunteers have been in collaboration with AHA to maximize the opportunities and resources of both organizations to develop, launch, and promote the HCM registry, recognition, and certification programs. Specifically,  the project will develop measures, research, quality, programmatic efforts, co-branding initiatives, and governance related to HCM management

HCM Fellowships

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is commonly encountered in cardiovascular practice.  Despite increasing awareness, HCM is often unrecognized, misdiagnosed, or mismanaged in many patients.

The HCM Fellowship program provides cardiology fellows or practicing cardiologists with the opportunity to participate in specialized HCM training, including diagnosis, management, and treatment of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) under the guidance of a volume center with experts in the field. The pilot program was developed and tested in 2025 thanks to a grant from BMS.

HCM Program Enhancement Networks

In 2025, regional program enhancement networks were established for physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, sonographers at regional cardiology practices involved in the treatment of patients with HCM to:
    • Facilitate and enhance high quality, community based HCM care in regional hospitals and cardiology practices.
    • Promote shared care models and communication between comprehensive HCM centers and regional practices and cardiologists, and
    • Engage and expand cardiology care providers across multiple disciplines (physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses) involved in the care needs of HCM patients.
These networks involved care providers in the Carolinas, North Atlantic and West Coast, which were supported with a grant from BMS.
